What would a perfect day look like for
you?
It would start out with a long surf session with
overhead waves in someplace tropical and warm!
Then hang out with my friends and family followed
by a date with some really cute and nice surferboy
haha.
When did you start competing?
My first contest was when I turned 13 at the Roxy
Wahine Classic, but I didn’t really start
to like actually competing until I was in my freshman
year.
Tell me about your first contest.
oh man it was the Roxy Wahine Classic down in
San Onofre. I was so nervous! I actually didn’t
end up catching a single wave! It was small and
my heat was absolutely flat! I was so embarrassed!
Who were your major influences?
Well my family is a big help. We are very close
and they support my surfing so much! Like my parents
always come to my contests and stuff. I have three
older sisters who are all really cool, only one
surfs but we all get along pretty well and even
hangout.
What would you say your next biggest challenge
is as a surfer?
I would probably have to say finding time. Its
nice that i have surf PE so I can go out in the
mornings but I work a little bit and have a lot
of homework, so I am not out there as much as
I would like; but if it was up to me I would be
surfing constantly!
How did you get in surfing?
When I was like nine I was in Junior Guards for
a summer, I think I only stood up once but I was
telling everyone that I surfed. Well like a couple
of years later my friend invited me surfing so
I figured I should try it again before we went
out. I used an old orange and yellow retro surfboard
I found that was ran over in my garage, and I
haven’t stopped since.
What size boards do you ride?
For short boarding I am riding a 6'1 for most
stuff, but I am riding a 5'6 fish and a 6'5 for
bigger waves. I also long board and I am using
a 9'0 and a 9'2
what would you consider the highlight of your
career?
Last year in NSSA I was able to qualify for nationals.
I was pretty excited! My goal was to make it by
my senior year but I did it my sophmore. It was
a really cool experiance competing against so
many new girls from all over like Hawaii and the
east coast. The banquet was also really fun!
Who are your sponsors?
Right now I am riding for Rebel surfboards, M&B
Custom wetsuits, Et Surf Shop and Local Surfing
Network.
What is your favorite place to surf?
Nothing tops a good session at el porto! I also
like Hags when it’s not too crowded and
when its breaking.
How many surf boards do you break each year?
i dont break that many compared to some people
I know I would say probably one to two a year.
Some years I have broken a lot and a couple years
i haven’t broken any so I guess it depends.
Also rebel boards are hard to break!
How is your contest surfing?
It’s improving! I free surf much better
though, but who doesn’t. I don’t have
great strategy, but once I find where the waves
are, or I luck out on a couple good ones, I can
get pretty good results.
What is your favorite maneuver?
I love doing a hit off the top! To me that’s
one of the best feelings in surfing is doing a
big snap! but then getting barreled is way fun!
Where is your favorite wave?
I am goofy so I really like salt creek! Its such
a fun left for me and I get excited every time
I get to surf it. I also like el porto a lot
How do the waves at El porto rank in your book
of waves?
Pretty high i would say. I really like the way
it breaks and I always have a fun session there.
I like how there is a bunch of peaks too there
so its pretty spread out.
Any Thank-you's and shout-outs?
My family for being so supportive in everything
especially my surfing! Et surf, M&B wetsuits,
Local Surfing Network and especially rebel surfboards
for getting my some really sick boards!
