IT'S ALL IN THE NUMBERS by Bob Visty
Up at 5:15 and it’s 1.6 miles to the beach.
Parking lot opens at 0600. You do this 100’s
of days every year. Feels like I’ve done it
1-million times. Rain, shine, fog, wind, there’s
really only 2 seasons; suit, no suit......
Tim Banas was 100 feet from the top of the cliff
above Indicators when he became fearful that he
wouldn’t make it to the top. Moments earlier
he had re-injured his right knee in a fight at the
bottom of the 300-foot cliff. The 44-year-old painting
contractor had only recently been able to go back
to work.......

Porto area has undoubtedly witnessed the mystical
"Tanker Reef" break at least once. The
outside reef will only work on the mightiest of
swells but when it does......
Almost every longtime El Porto local has "met"
the friendly Manhattan Beach dolphin pod at one
time or another. Perhaps they chose to surface within
arms reach or if you were really lucky, shared a
wave with you........
