Malibu is one of those beach communities that everyone envisions when thinking about the Southern California coastline. Long known as the home of many Hollywood stars and their families, this affluent city in Los Angeles County offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean along its canyon neighborhoods. Upscale dining and shopping experiences can be found within the city itself. The city gets its name from the Chumash, Native Americans who settled in the area. The name means “the surf sounds loudly”.

The Malibu area boasts several popular surfing spots, including Zuma Beach, Surfrider Beach, Dan Blocker Beach, and County Line. Malibu is considered by many to be the focal point of modern surfing, with a legendary break and an active community of board shapers and riders.  The main surfing location, running from the Malibu Lagoon to the pier and divided into three major areas or “points”, receives the best breaks during the late summer and early fall, and can get surf in the morning or afternoon, depending on prevailing wind conditions and ocean swells.  First Point boasts long waves that break evenly and is favored by longboarders.  Second and Third Points have more unpredictable wave conditions, but waves at these breaks tend to run higher than at First Point. These two breaks are dominated by shortboarders.

To save a trip in the car, surfers throughout California rely on the live Malibu surf cam provided by Swell Magnet, the leader in real-time, high-definition surf condition cameras. Our streaming Malibu surf cam overlooks the break, giving water enthusiasts a look at current conditions and wave heights. Our team of experienced surfers also prepares our exclusive Malibu surf report, which features information on current water temperature and weather conditions. Our cams and surf reports can be accessed from anywhere in the world on any Internet-connected device, giving you up-to-the-minute details on conditions at many of the most popular surf breaks in California and beyond.
