SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 5-1-13

For Thursday morning both the NW wind swell and the SW ground swell will back down a notch, but continue to produce some good surf. The wind swell will be in the knee to waist high zone and the SW energy will continue to churn out chest to shoulder high sets with a few larger sneaker sets.

The conditions look good as high pressure moves in. We’ll see offshore breezes in the 6-15 MPH zone at most spots with gusts up into the mid 20’s or more below the passes and canyons. The sea surface should be clean all day long and the air temp will jump up to 84 degrees.

Friday morning the swell will continue it’s slow decline as the consistency and size methodically back down through the weekend. The best South facing beaches should go chest high plus.

The conditions look good again as high pressure hangs tough for one more day. We’ll have offshore breezes anywhere from 4-15 MPH zone into the afternoon. The air temp will top out at 83 degrees.

Saturday morning will continue to drop off with waist to chest high sets out of the South. Expect to do a little more waiting in between action.

The conditions look fair for spots that can handle a South wind, we’ll have breezes out of the SE/SSE in the 5-9 MPH zone until 11AM and those will get up to the 10-12 MPH zone out of the West for the afternoon. The air temp will top out at 65 degrees.

The current water temps are as follows – Newport 62 degrees, Huntington 59 degrees, the South Bay showed as 60 degrees, Santa Monica 62 degrees and Malibu 59 degrees.
