While others were off chasing the South swell a few South Bay locals went with the “Bird in the hand” mentality and it paid some serious dividends.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 5-19-13

There should still be a little meat left on the bone for Tuesday morning. The SW energy will continue to back down but should be good for some fun chest high plus sets at the top spots. The NW wind swell will will also remain in the mix with waist high plus surf for the better West facing beaches.

The conditions look okay with variable breezes in the 1-7 MPH range until 11AM and 10-12 MPH out of the SW until sundown. The air temp will get up to 72 degrees.

For Wednesday morning the NW wind swell will pick up into waist to chest high range, (from an angle of 310 degrees), for the best West facing beaches and another pulse of that liberally angled SW energy will dish up waist to chest high sets for the best South facing beaches.

The conditions look fair with variable breezes out of the SE/SSE, in the 2-6 MPH range until 11AM and 12-15 MPH out of the West until sundown. The air temp will get up to 69 degrees.

For Thursday morning we’ll see more SW swell, (from a liberal angle of 200-210 degrees), which should be good for waist to chest high surf for any beach with a peek at the South and slightly bigger for top spots in the OC and San O’ areas.

We’ll also see an increase in steeply angled, short interval, NW wind swell from an angle of 300-310 degrees. This should be good for waist to possibly chest high wind peaks for the best West facing breaks.

The conditions look pretty good again with variable breezes out of the SE/SSE, in the 4-7 MPH range until 11AM and 9-11 MPH out of the SW until sundown. The air temp will get up to 68 degrees.

The current water temps are as follows – Newport 64 degrees, Huntington 66 degrees, the South Bay showed as 66 degrees, Santa Monica 67 degrees and Malibu 68 degrees.
