Longtime Swellmagnet photographer, Jeff Bell, dusted off his hard drive and sent me some good ones… enjoy.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 8-12-13
HURRICANE WATCH 8-12-13
Henriette weakened to a tropical depression early Sunday morning PDT over the open waters of the Pacific well south of Hawaii. Henriette will move westward into progressively cooler ocean waters and higher wind shear which should weaken Henriette even further over the next couple of days.
This system will track slowly westward over the next few days, and generally will be moving into a zone conducive for tropical development with rather light wind shear and warm waters. This feature could become a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next few days. However, its westward motion should keep it well away from any land for the foreseeable future.
Additionally, there is a broad area of low pressure around 1,400 miles east-southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Satellite imagery shows a scattering of shower and thunderstorm activity with this area of low pressure and further tropical development of this feature is unlikely over the next few days.
Sorry for the late post tonight. It’s tough to delve into the data when it’s so depressing… I will be back on Tuesday with the 5DAY 4CAST!
Tuesday morning looks no better as our surf slump turns into an aquatic version of “Groundhog Day” in which each 24 hour span mirrors the next. “I got you babe”… Knee high… get used to it for awhile, but please don’t shoot the messenger.
