SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 8-27-13
______________________________________________________________________________

HURRICANE WATCH 8-27-13

We continue to track an area of disturbed weather off the Mexican coast today, now southeast of Puerto Vallarta and drifting westward. In general, this broad area of low pressure is in a favorable environment for further development. The waters are very warm, around 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

As this system slides to the west, upper level winds will remain favorable but it will encounter much cooler waters. So, this system has a limited amount of time to develop into a tropical cyclone before it moves into an area that would not support further development. Therefore, should a circulation center develop in the near term, allowing it to become a depression or storm, it should remain weak.

Elsewhere around the East Pacific, we currently do not see any other areas of interest.

Thursday morning we’ll see our first ground swell in what seems like months. This is nothing get real excited about, but when you’ve starved as long as we have, any morsel that Mother Nature throws our way will happily be devoured.

The swell will come in from a 195-200 degree, SW angle with 14-16 second intervals and put the better South facing breaks into the waist high plus zone on the sets. Not quite the wave bonanza we’ve been hoping for, but there should at least be a little something to float your boat.
