HURRICANE WATCH August 27, 2014 – Marie has weakened to a tropical storm over the open waters of the eastern Pacific. The weakening trend will continue during the next couple of days as the storm moves over progressively cooler waters. Despite this weakening, the large swells produced by the storm over the past several days have radiated outwards from Marie and will affect the coast from Baja California northward to the Southern California beaches into Friday. These large swells may result in structural damage, significant beach erosion, as well as strong rip currents and minor coastal flooding.

No other tropical disturbances are expected to develop into a tropical cyclone in the East Pacific Basin over the next 48 hours.

For Thursday morning Marie will continue to pump, but won’t be quite as venomous as Wednesday. The top South facing breaks should go overhead to well overhead on the sets in the morning and start a gradual decline throughout the day. The angle will get a little more West in it, coming up the line from a steep 185 degrees. Although steep, the brute force of the swell will force feed at least a little swell into almost all of the West facing breaks.

Once again, what breaks will be good? Malibu? May as well everyone else is!
