HURRICANE WATCH October 30, 2014 – Tropical Depression 21-E has formed in the Eastern Pacific well south of Acapulco, Mexico. The storm is over warm waters and will track to the west-northwest through the end of the week, thus further strengthening is expected. Through the weekend the storm will not have any direct impacts to land, but beginning Sunday and Monday, the system will turn more to the northeast and track toward Mexico. During this time, the system is also expected to become a hurricane.

For Halloween morning the scenario will remain the same with just smallish, background NW swell in the knee to waist high plus range for the exposed beaches. Looks like more tricks than treats as far as the surf is concerned…

For Saturday morning we’ll see a nice bump in size out of the NW with head high to overhead sets at the the better West facing breaks. Unfortunately the winds look problematic with stiff onshore/westerly breezes right out of the gate. It won’t be victory at sea but pretty brutal. *You might want to dust that full suit off in case the water turns over and the temp drops down.

The conditions look poor on paper with 9-15 MPH onshore winds at first light and those get up to nearly 20 MPH later in the day. The air temp tops out at 68 degrees.
___________________________________________________________________________

Sunday morning the NW swell will continue to produce some shoulder to head high plus surf for the best West facing breaks and there is a chance that the conditions could improve overnight, (but I’m not making any promises).

* Sunday, November 2, 2014, 2:00:00 AM clocks are turned backward 1 hour to Sunday, November 2, 2014, 1:00:00 AM local standard time instead.
