SURF FORECAST UPDATED 1-16-13
______________________________________________________________________________

Okay, we’re half way through January and my wetsuit continues to hang on the back of my bathroom door, crispy dry and extremely neglected. I’ll go on record as stating that this is the least I have surfed in the prime Winter swell months for as long as I can remember. Hopefully Mother Nature can pull a rabbit out of her proverbial hat and work a little magic for us for the tail end of January and the entirety of February. If not we’ll have to chalk this up as a Winter to forget and start booking our flights for the South swell season. Keep your fingers crossed that the scales tip our way… and soon. It looks like we’ll get a little reprieve for the weekend so hang tough!

On Thursday morning things will continue to be well below the Mendoza line for this time of year, with continued, pathetic, knee high plus surf for most of the coast.

The conditions look fantastic with winds out of the NE/NNE in the 3-10 MPH zone all day long, and once again, slightly stronger breezes below the passes and canyons. We’ll see our highest air temp in quite some time with the thermometer peaking at 74 degrees on the sand.

For Friday morning, (don’t shoot the messenger), things will remain on the small side with knee high sets for the better West facing beaches. The tides look favorable for the morning session, but there’s just not much swell out there.

For Saturday morning things will start out on the slow side again with continued, knee high plus surf through the prime morning hours, but the good news is that some fresh, long interval, (really long interval, 22-24 seconds), NW swell will start to show mid day and fill in completely for Sunday morning. The Best West facing breaks will see head high plus sets by Sundown from a Westerly 290-300 degree angle.

2013-01-19 Sat 09:21 PM 2.21 feet Low Tide

For Sunday morning we should actually see some thumping lines in the head high to a few feet overhead zone for the better West facing breaks. Due to the long intervals, 20+ seconds, and Westerly direction, I doubt that the beach breaks will cough up much shape so you may have to go elbow to elbow at the points and reefs to scratch up some decent waves, (hopefully not, but that seems to be par for the course as of late). The gets pretty low around noon so I’d get on it early!

Sunday
2013-01-20 Sun 01:35 AM Moonset
2013-01-20 Sun 04:23 AM 4.77 feet High Tide
2013-01-20 Sun 06:57 AM Sunrise
2013-01-20 Sun 12:08 PM 0.77 feet Low Tide
2013-01-20 Sun 12:16 PM Moonrise
2013-01-20 Sun 05:13 PM Sunset
2013-01-20 Sun 06:40 PM 2.95 feet High Tide
2013-01-20 Sun 10:37 PM 2.40 feet Low Tide

The conditions look to be excellent in the AM with NE/NNE winds in the 9-11 MPH zone until around noon and 4-6 MPH breezes out of the West until dark. We’ll see an air temp of 73 degrees.
