HURRICANE WATCHSunday, June 29, Tropical Depression 4E is moving quickly out into the increasingly cooler waters of the Pacific. It will begin to run out of opportunity to do so my early tomorrow.

Well… after a long, painful, lull in surf we’ve had some decent waves since last Wednesday. Nothing to write home about, but I haven’t had to nibble on the Prozac in quite some time. From what I can decipher, it looks like we should see a good run of swell out of the South/ South West in the upcoming days, a very promising Hurricane season coming up, and an El Nino season practically in the bank. With 71.8 degree water out front, waves to ride, and zero June Gloom, LIFE IS GOOD!!! Enjoy it… and remember to never drop in on the guy in the Orange Hat 🙂

For Monday morning we’ll see some medium interval NW swell move in from a steep 300-310 degree angle. That energy should dish up waist high plus to chest high peaks at the better West facing beaches.
The SW energy will be on a slow fade but still be good for waist high plus sets.

Tuesday morning is shaping up to be another fun day of waves. Both the NW and SW energy will take a slight dip in size, but it should still be decent. At this time of year you can’t really take anything for granted, so just enjoy the warm water and the little morsels of surf that Mother Nature is throwing down!

Wednesday morning looks pretty feeble, with just leftover crumbs in the knee to waist high zone. The water temp is so comfortable right now that I may have to force myself out there to keep my 8 day in a row surf streak alive, (providing I don’t drop dead on Monday or Tuesday).

The conditions won’t be bad for spots that can handle a South wind. We’ll see breezes out of the South in the 1-3 MPH zone until 10AM and then those pick up to 8-11 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp hits the 75 degree mark on the sand.

For Thursday morning we’ll see small, leftover background swell in the knee to waist high range.
The good news is that some fresh, long interval, (16-18 second), ground swell will come up the line later in the day, and should be in full force for some 4th of July fireworks! The only caveat is that it will be coming from a steep, 180 degree angle and the bulk of the swell will only get into the most exposed South facing beaches like the OC and San O’ areas.
