HURRICANE WATCH September 21st, 2014 – Looks like Hurricane Marie will remain an anomaly for now, as she was the only system that actually spun out to the NW, and in the process, created some of the best Hurricane swell we’ve seen in more than a decade. All of Marie’s predecessors seem hell bent on destroying Baja like there’s some personal vendetta being exercised. Anyway all of Central America is ripe with color and it shouldn’t be long before we see the formation of some fresh Tropical storms!

Polo remains a weak tropical storm early this morning as it slowly swirls to the north-northwest away from Baja California. Most of the rain and thunderstorm activity with the storm will remain offshore today. Polo will weaken over the cool waters and should be downgraded to a depression while moving northwestward at some point during the day.

While no other tropical development is expected in the immediate future, there are indications that a system may attempt to develop off the coast of Central America on Monday or Tuesday.

By Monday morning looks small with just some knee to waist high surf up and down the coast. The Hurricane remained rather sedentary and fizzled out quickly sending no swell into our window!

Thursday morning should see a pick up in size as some NW ground swell creeps into the picture. This swell will come down the line from a fairly steep 300-305 degree angle with meaty 14-16 second intervals as it fills in through the day. The best West facing breaks should see shoulder to head high plus sets by noon. At this point nothing is etched in stone but it does look promising and my glass has been 1/2 full lately. Check back tomorrow for more details!
