SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 2-17-13

On Monday morning we’ll see surf in the chest to shoulder high plus zone for top West facing beaches. This energy will move in from a 290-300 degree angle with 16-18 second intervals.

The conditions look okay for the AM with E/SE winds in the 3-6 MPH range until around 11 and mild, 6-9 MPH, variable winds into the afternoon. We’ll see a chilly air temp of 59 degrees.

For Tuesday morning it looks like we should see a stronger, 20-22 second interval build in through the day. This will eclipse the other swell when it starts to fill in and should put the exposed West facing breaks into the head high to overhead zone by days end. The weather could take a turn for the worse though…

The conditions a little sketchy as a front moves in bringing with it an onshore flow and a 30% chance of rain. The winds will start off light and variable, out of the E/SE at 2-4 MPH but pick up quickly after 10AM, with stiff West winds up to 20 MPH. We’ll see an air temp of 56 degrees.

Wednesday morning looks pretty ugly as Mother Nature flips the onshore wind switch on early and keeps it in the 9-16 MPH range, out of the West all day long. The surf will be in the head high to overhead zone with stormy conditions.

On Thursday morning things should clean up considerably with NE/NNE winds and waves in the head high to overhead range.

The conditions look fair early, with NE/NNE, 3-9 MPH winds until 11AM and west winds will get up to 8-10 MPH in the afternoon. We’ll see the air temp remain a chilly 59 degrees.

The current water temps are as follows – Newport 53 degrees, Huntington 55 degrees, the South Bay showed as 56 degrees, Santa Monica 57 degrees and Malibu 55 degrees.
