SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 3-17-13
Wow! Just got out of the water after an extremely frustrating surf session. It seems like the summer crowds are already out in full force. The thing is it’s March, the water is 59 degrees and the sun’s not really out! Hopefully that was just a freakishly crowded Sunday, otherwise I’ll have to get a couple RPG’s affixed to the front of my board to take out the back paddlers, snakes and that guy that always paddles for the shoulder instead of the white water when I’m taking off… I knew I should have golfed today!
Monday morning will continue to be on the small side with a mix of some short interval, NW wind swell from a steep 310 degree angle and some 16-18 second interval, SW swell, which will fill in through the day from a 195 degree angle. That should be good for waist high plus sets at the best South facing breaks.

The conditions should be fair again for the AM, with SE winds in the 3-8 MPH zone until 11AM and mild 6-8 MPH breezes out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp will hit a high of 62 degrees.
For Tuesday morning any beach that’s receptive to 190-195 degree angle out of the S/SW will see some small, but long interval swell in the waist to chest high range. It won’t be big, but should have a little oomph to it. The OC and San O’ areas will be the best bet for size and consistency.

For Wednesday morning the SW energy will take center stage as the wind swell peters out. The top spots should see waist to possibly chest high zone.

The conditions look to be fair with light and variable winds at 1-5 MPH until 11AM and West winds up to 15 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp will top out at 63 degrees.
Thursday morning looks better, as some fresh, NW wind swell moves in from a steep 310 degree angle and puts the better West facing breaks into the waist high plus zone. We’ll also see another burst of SW energy from that same 195 degree angle. This will have 14-16 second intervals and be good for chest high sets at the better South facing beaches.
