SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 4-16-13
Wow, what a blow job! I just drove by the beach and it is a full blown, Victory at Sea scenario right now. Unfortunately, the wind models have changed their tune and are now calling for N/NW winds for the dawn patrol tomorrow. This basically means that the sea surface will have a very hard time trying to clean up and likely remain a bit junky for the morning session. Stranger things have happened, but based on the models it doesn’t looks good…
Wednesday morning should continue to produce good sized surf with chest to head high plus wind swell for the West facing breaks and continued steeply and selective South swell sliding up the coast at a 170-180 degree angle. This swell will get into spots like Newport, Huntington and parts of the San O’ area but bypass everything else.

The conditions look questionable with var breezes out of the N/NW at 6-10 MPH until 11AM and those will get up into 15-20 MPH zone out of the West for the afternoon. The air temp will top out at 67 degrees.
By Thursday morning the swell the wind swell will dip into the waist to possibly chest high zone for the morning and continue to taper off as the day wears on.
The South swell will fade into waist to chest high range and become less consistent. Once again this will come in at a steep angle and be selective about what beaches it visits.

Friday morning looks pretty weak with some small, knee to waist high wind swell. We’ll also see some fresh, steeply angled Southerly ground swell move in late in the day. This will come up the line at a steep 170 degrees and only get into the MOST EXPOSED South facing breaks.

For Saturday morning the South swell should be in full swing with chest high plus sets for the better South facing breaks. The OC and San O’ areas will be the best bet as the lesser exposed breaks will have a tough time pulling it in.
