SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 8-18-13
HURRICANE WATCH 8-18-13
In the Eastern Pacific, there are no major threats for imminent development. There is a widespread cluster of rain and thunderstorms roughly 500 miles south-southwest of southern Mexico that will begin to move into somewhat favorable conditions with low wind shear as it tracks westward. This will allow for this system to gradually develop and it could be a depression by the middle of this upcoming week. Most of the computer modeling suggest this system will be a tropical cyclone by week’s end.
I finally got wet again today!!! My crispy, dry wetsuit is once again dripping in the shower on a hanger. While far from epic, it was nice to actually get a few little peelers, (with 300 other people who decided to surf El Porto today). Rather than continue to bitch and moan about the obvious lack of waves I will remain a “glass half full” kind of guy.
The good news is that football season is upon us again! That means 2 things… I get to watch my beloved Steelers every week and the Winter swell season, complete with offshore winds, is upon us! Things can only get better from here. I have to go now, my glass is overflowing…
For Monday morning it looks like we’ll remain in the waist high zone with Mother Nature tossing the better West facing breaks a few little NW wind swell crumbs. Nothing to get real psyched up about but if you have a thick stick you can probably eek out a few little ones.

Wednesday morning is shaping up to be another stinker with near flat surf for So Cal. With global warming and giant storms taking center stage, you’d think we could at least get some warmer water and a few well placed wind events to get us some surf. I’m thinking this Winter is going to be the year we’ve been waiting for, (glass full).

Thursday morning should see a slight improvement, but there’s a caveat involved… for only the most exposed South facing breaks. The top spots in the OC and San O’ areas will see some 14-16 second ground swell from a severe, 175-180 degree angle. Don’t be shocked when you head down to Manhattan Pier and it’s flat…
