HURRICANE WATCH:

Hurricane Guillermo has begun to weaken, and is now a Category 1 hurricane. As of Sunday afternoon, Guillermo had sustained winds of 90 mph with gusts to 105 mph. Guillermo was moving west-northwestward at 10 mph.

Regardless of the system’s track, it will bring increasing surf and seas as well as the threat for dangerous rip currents to the Hawaiian Islands over the course of the next several days.

Elsewhere, a tropical wave centered well off the west coast of Mexico is currently producing shower and thunderstorm activity. While this system is currently disorganized, environmental conditions are expected to be generally favorable for strengthening. Therefore, we will need to monitor this system closely in the coming days for potential tropical development.

Monday morning looks a hair better with some small, but long interval South swell from 200-205 degree angle. This should be good for some fun little waist high plus sets at the better S/SW facing breaks. While not big, it is a deepwater swell and should have a little push to it.

There’s also another steeper South swell showing up later in the day. This energy moves in from a 185-190 degree angle and will also be a small but deepwater swell. It should be a bit bigger for Tuesday.

Tuesday should have some small South pulses through the day. The 200+ degree swell will be on the decline but the South, 185+ degree energy will be peaking. Nothing to do backflips over but it should make for some waist high plus, (maybe some chest high), muscley little sets.

Thursday looks a little slower with a fading small South swell in the knee to waist high+ range.

Another little burst of South swell will start to creep in late in the day. This energy will be a little steeper with a 180-185 degree angle so only the most exposed will get a sniff of this swell. Small again, but with the long intervals it should still have enough push to get you going!
