HURRICANE WATCH: As of Tuesday morning, Tropical Storm Guillermo was centered over 420 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii. Guillermo has sustained winds of 70 mph and is tracking off to the northwest at 10 mph.

Although the center of Guillermo will remain to the north and northeast of the Hawaiian Islands, there will still be some impacts from the storm over the next several days. Rough surf, large waves and rip currents will continue to affect the Hawaiian Islands through Friday.

Elsewhere, we are monitoring an area of low pressure over 1,000 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Gradual development of this system is likely over the next few days as it tracks off to the west-northwest through a zone of warm water. By the end of the week, this low pressure area may become a tropical depression or tropical storm.

By Wednesday morning that SW energy will be on the decline but there should still be sets in the waist high range for the better South facing beaches with a few larger sets mixed in.

There’s also some small NW wind swell mixing in.

* Early morning low tides will definitely hamper the AM sessions!

Thursday looks a little slower with a fading small South swell in the knee to waist high+ range.

Another little burst of South swell will start to creep in late in the day. This energy will be a little steeper with a 180-185 degree angle so only the most exposed will get a sniff of this swell. Small again, but with the long intervals it should still have enough push to get you going!

Friday morning looks okay for the most exposed South facing breaks with steep, 180-185 degree angle swell in the waist high plus range. Not quite promising enough to go chase it down, but if you’re in the OC area you may be able to snag a few scraps!
