SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 8-7-13
______________________________________________________________________________

HURRICANE WATCH 8-6-13

Hurricane Henriette is churning westward through the central Pacific Ocean, just over 1,600 miles east-southeast of the Hawaiian Islands.

Henriette is expected to track toward the northwest, then turn west over the next five days. While no land areas are in Henriette’s path over the next five days, we still cannot rule out a brush of the Hawaiian Islands late in the weekend or early next week.

That being said, while Henriette may encounter some additional strengthening over the next day or so, more stable air and cooler water is expected to weaken Henriette starting later Wednesday or Thursday.

As occurred with Flossie, the climatology of tropical cyclones weakening to either depressions or low-grade tropical storms when the approach Hawaii from the east, is expected to hold in the case of Henriette.

Thursday morning should see a small bump in size out of the SW from a 200-205 degree angle. The exposed South facing beaches should see waist high plus sets later in the day.

There looks to be continued knee to waist high wind swell energy out of the NW from a 300 degree angle.

Friday morning looks similar as the SW energy continues to produce waist high plus sets.

It looks like we could see some 10-12 second interval swell from Hurricane Henriette mix in for the more exposed South facing breaks too.

There’s also a good chance of seeing a slight bump in for the West facing breaks as the wind swell gets up into the waist high plus zone.

Nothing too dynamic, but the combination gives us at least a glimmer of hope.
