1-12-16 I was down here watching this session for about 45 minutes while Lucio was filming and although everyone always says this, “IT LOOKED LIKE PIPELINE”, it really did! Good job fellas! This is slide show 3 of 3.

OH Damn!!! What an exciting week of surf, with the top West facing breaks never really dipping below the OH to DOH zone and the conditions were excellent. These kind of waves/seasons don’t happen in a lifetime too often people, so be sure to find a spot that suits your skill level and become part of the El Nino experience. Get those adrenaline glands pumping and everything in your life looks a little better. The guy who doesn’t use his turn signal gets a free pass, you don’t kick the dog or beat your wife… life is good… Right NOW. Go get some surf! We hit a proverbial gusher and there’s no end in sight! Finally something is living up to the HYPE!
______________________________________________________________________________

Saturday morning will be smallest day we’ve seen in a while, but the surf will remain formidable with head high to OH sets throughout the day. Don’t be shocked if some larger scout sets from our next swell start to show up later in the afternoon.

* All week the swell models have been calling for smaller surf, and all week it’s continued to pump, so take the above forecast with a grain of salt, and if you’re heading to a West facing beach be ready to make a small donation to the piper!

Saturday
2016-01-16 Sat 02:20 AM 4.80 feet High Tide
2016-01-16 Sat 06:59 AM Sunrise
2016-01-16 Sat 08:51 AM 1.60 feet Low Tide
2016-01-16 Sat 11:25 AM Moonrise
2016-01-16 Sat 02:26 PM 3.47 feet High Tide

2016-01-16 Sat 05:08 PM Sunset
2016-01-16 Sat 08:26 PM 1.09 feet Low Tide

The conditions look okay with variable breezes in the 1-4 MPH zone until around 11AM and then the winds will blow of the West at 5-7 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 62 degrees.

For Sunday morning it looks like someone put some more quarters in the wave making machine. We’ll see some Fresh, NW swell, from a Westerly angle of 285-295 degrees, (17-19 second intervals), filling in later in the day.

We will start off with head high to OH sets at first light and then the swell will morph into another OH to DOH + beast as the day wears on. This is a nearly 7 foot, deep water swell, so I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s even bigger than the last hay maker system that put places like PV, The Breakwall and El Porto into the 20 foot range. I have a feeling that the Monday will be the biggest day of the year so far so definitely look before you leap!!!

The liberal angle of this swell will once again allow for it to get into almost all South facing breaks, (although obviously the swell will be smaller *but safer), than that of the West facing beaches.

Sunday
2016-01-17 Sun 12:35 AM Moonset
2016-01-17 Sun 03:22 AM 5.08 feet High Tide
2016-01-17 Sun 06:58 AM Sunrise
2016-01-17 Sun 10:25 AM 1.07 feet Low Tide
2016-01-17 Sun 12:06 PM Moonrise
2016-01-17 Sun 04:15 PM 3.20 feet High Tide
2016-01-17 Sun 05:09 PM Sunset
2016-01-17 Sun 09:34 PM 1.48 feet Low Tide

The conditions should be fine with variable breezes in the 1-3 MPH zone until around 11AM and 4-8 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. There is no rain in the forecast and the air temp tops out at 65 degrees.

Monday morning looks for lack of a better adjective, “Frightening”! The top, deep water West facing breaks will be DOH to TOH plus in the AM and start to narrowly taper off in the afternoon. The conditions don’t look perfect but should be okay. I’m guessing that all the guys in the running for the “Big Wave of the Winter” will be out prowling like a dog in heat.

The better money will be on those who exploit a nook or cranny that’s a bit more wind protected and deflects the brunt of the swell… I’m just saying! I like to challenge myself but I’ll likely put my tail between my legs and hunt down something a bit less daunting!

Monday
2016-01-18 Mon 01:39 AM Moonset
2016-01-18 Mon 04:23 AM 5.41 feet High Tide
2016-01-18 Mon 06:58 AM Sunrise

2016-01-18 Mon 12:50 PM Moonrise
2016-01-18 Mon 05:10 PM Sunset
2016-01-18 Mon 05:48 PM 3.29 feet High Tide
2016-01-18 Mon 10:42 PM 1.71 feet Low Tide

The conditions look tolerable with light and variable winds out of the West in the 1-5 MPH zone until 11AM and 8-13 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. There is a 30% chance of rain in the forecast and the air temp tops out at 60 degrees.
______________________________________________________________________________

Tuesday morning will continue to PUMP with the best West facing breaks seeing OH, DOH and possible TOH sets continue to pound the coast through the morning and then slowly start tapering off a bit in the afternoon.

All of this energy will continue with the same direction in it, which means that the more Southerly facing breaks will continue to be receptive, (the swell will just be a bit more tame and manageable).

2016-01-19 Tue 06:56 PM 3.54 feet High Tide
2016-01-19 Tue 11:44 PM 1.78 feet Low Tide

The conditions look good with light and variable winds in the 1-3 MPH zone until 11AM and 4-6 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. There is a 20% chance of rain in the forecast and the air temp tops out at 63 degrees.

winds

The conditions look weird with some swirling winds. I would put little stock in this model and wait until the next run to make any definitive predictions! There is a 10% chance of rain in the forecast and the air temp jumps up to 67 degrees.

The current water temps Newport 59 degrees, Huntington 56 degrees, the South Bay showed as 61 degrees, Santa Monica 59 degrees and Malibu 59 degrees.
