We’re 5 days into 2017 and it seems as if Mother Nature has been concentrating on making rain not waves… It looks like we have a few more days of less than impressive surf but our collective fortunes should be changing for the better by midweek next week. The jet stream is dropping down and the proverbial flood gates will open wide as Southern California becomes receptive to all of the Northern Hemisphere storms . Hang tough, it won’t be long before we’re back in the saddle again!

For Saturday morning we’ll see some small, fresh NW swell begin to filter in and although not super impressive this energy will have quite a bit of West in it and get into any break with a peek at the West. The swell will have 12+ second intervals from a 280 degree + angle. Expect waist high surf for the top spots, but like I said, most beaches should get at least a little taste of swell.

* Beware of the Urban Runoff – It is advised to stay out of the water for 72 hours following any measurable rain fall. It’s always a roll of the dice, especially after a major downpour. The threat of getting sick is very real so if you do insist on taking the plunge be sure to use ear plugs an upon exiting the ocean rinse off in hot water, use some alcohol based ear drops and a nasal netti pot rinse for good measure never hurt anybody.
