Hurricane Watch Hurricane Hilary is located south of Manzanillo, Mexico, and will likely continue to strengthen today and tonight and may become a major, category three hurricane by Tuesday. Hilary’s outer rain bands may brush the Colima and Jalisco coastlines with enhanced showers and thunderstorms and potential isolated flooding. Rough surf and dangerous rip currents will develop along the Mexico coastline as Hilary stirs up the warm waters south of Mexico.

Tropical Storm Greg is west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Greg continues to struggle with moderate wind shear and Greg is expected to weaken in the next 24 hours. Greg will remain over the open waters and will not pose any threat to land.

Tropical Storm Irwin continue to slowly gather strength. Irwin is located southwest of the southern tip of Baja California and moving westward over the open waters of the Pacific. Irwin is over warm waters and will be impacted by moderate wind shear over the next couple of days, resulting a gradual increase in strength. Irwin will remain far enough away from any land that it will not cause issues.

For Friday morning it looks like our collective fortunes will start to change as tropical energy is projected to come into the fold and Hurricane Hilary starts to show through the day from a super steep/sideways angle of 160-165 degrees. This swell, although potent will slide right past most breaks because of the severity of the angle but be head high to WOH by days end.

2017-07-28 Fri 08:35 PM 2.05 feet Low Tide
2017-07-28 Fri 11:37 PM Moonset

The conditions look pretty good early with variable breezes in the 2-3 MPH zone until 10AM and 6-9 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp bumps up to 76 degrees.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Saturday morning is shaping up to be a good one with solid, but steeply angled surf from a 170-175 degrees. This energy will be comprised of Hurricane HILARY and potentially TS/Hurricane Irwin. Stay tuned but all signs point to OH to WOH surf at the receptive South facing breaks. Should be good but you may have to scoot around to find the juice!

Saturday
2017-07-29 Sat 02:08 AM 3.91 feet High Tide
2017-07-29 Sat 06:03 AM Sunrise
2017-07-29 Sat 08:27 AM 1.30 feet Low Tide

2017-07-29 Sat 07:56 PM Sunset
2017-07-29 Sat 10:06 PM 1.96 feet Low Tide

The conditions look good again early with variable winds in the 2-3 MPH zone until 10AM and 6-9 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at a scorching 77 degrees.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

For Sunday morning, (I’ll be camping in the Sierras of course), as all hell breaks loose, (if everything pans out as projected). Both Hilary and Irwin are due to hit 5th gear with OH to possibly DOH surf for the top South facing beaches. The angle should have more West in it so it won’t be as discriminating as days prior. It is slated to roar into town from 180-190 degree angle and while still crookedly steep it should light up anything with a look at the South, (obviously the more exposed the better).

Sunday
2017-07-30 Sun 12:10 AM Moonset
2017-07-30 Sun 03:34 AM 3.35 feet High Tide
2017-07-30 Sun 06:04 AM Sunrise
2017-07-30 Sun 08:23 AM First Quarter
2017-07-30 Sun 09:19 AM 1.83 feet Low Tide
2017-07-30 Sun 01:24 PM Moonrise
2017-07-30 Sun 04:24 PM 4.74 feet High Tide
2017-07-30 Sun 07:56 PM Sunset
2017-07-30 Sun 11:36 PM 1.65 feet Low Tide

The conditions look fair early with variable winds out of the S/SSE in the 1-3 MPH zone until 10AM and 5-9 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 78 degrees.
