HURRICANE WATCH: We are monitoring two areas across the East Pacific Basin right now for potential development.

The first area is a low pressure center around 1,100 miles to the east-southeast of the Hawaii Islands. This system appears increasingly unlikely to develop as it moves to the west-northwest into a zone of higher wind shear.

The second area we are watching is a cluster of showers and thunderstorms associated with a low pressure center currently around 1,400 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This feature is expected to organize into a tropical depression over the next several days as thunderstorms are slowly becoming more symmetrical about a low-level center. In the longer range, this system will move to the northwest and has the potential to impact the Hawaiian Islands in about a week.
