HURRICANE WATCH November 10, 2014

– An area of low pressure is located a few hundred miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. AccuWeather.com meteorologists have been monitoring this system for the last few days. It has struggled to develop, but there is still a window early tonight when it could develop into a tropical cyclone. After that, conditions will become unfavorable for development.

For Tuesday morning we should see a subtle bump in size with inconsistent sets in the waist to chest high zone out of the NW at 300-310 degrees with 14 second intervals.

For Wednesday morning the swell backs down into the waist high zone and continues to fade through the day. Same swell, same angle… the intervals drop to 12-13 seconds.

The conditions look fair with variable winds in the 1-4 MPH zone until noon and 6-8 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp holds steady at 66 degrees.

Thursday morning will start out on the slow side with knee to waist high waves for the better West facing breaks but some new energy should start to show up in the afternoon. This will come down the line for an extremely steep angle of 310 degrees and should dish up chest to shoulder high sets for beaches that are receptive to that angle.

The current water temps Newport 67 degrees, Huntington 65 degrees, the South Bay showed as 68 degrees, Santa Monica 66 degrees and Malibu 66 degrees.
