HURRICANE WATCH November 3rd, 2014

– Vance is moving northward across the open waters of the Eastern Pacific Basin, about 465 miles west-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. Vance appears to have peaked in intensity.

Vance will begin weakening tonight as it moves into an area of increasing wind shear. During the middle of the week, this weakening trend will accelerate as it approaches Mexico. The storm is expected to make landfall along the west coast of Mexico Wednesday night as a weak tropical storm or a tropical depression.

For Tuesday morning the surf will back down further leaving us with inconsistent waves in the waist high zone on the right tide.

* Another super high tide looms large for the AM and in all likelihood will shut down the surf throughout the morning. – Tue 06:53 AM 6.19 feet High Tide

The conditions excellent with NNE winds in the 3-10 MPH zone until noon and then those get up to 6-9 MPH out of the West later in the day. The air temp remains a toasty 74 degrees.

For Wednesday morning we’ll see a slight bump in surf size as some 12-14 second interval energy tip toes in with the high tide. This should be good for waist high plus sets on the right tide for West facing breaks that are receptive to a steep 310 degree angle.

* The high tide at 7:29AM remains a nuisance for the dawn patrol crew.

The conditions look poor on paper with 9-15 MPH onshore winds at first light and those get up to nearly 20 MPH later in the day. The air temp tops out at 80 degrees.

Thursday morning looks like a waste of perfect conditions as the NW energy dips into the knee to waist high + range.

There’s a chance at some Hurricane Vance swell but that’s not a slam dunk, and if it does show it will creep up the line at a ridiculously steep angle of 160-165 degrees. That being said, it will only make its presence known to most extremely South facing breaks, (so almost nowhere).
