HURRICANE WATCH October 28, 2014 – We continue to monitor an area of low pressure several hundred miles south of the Gulf of Tehuantepec off the southern coast of Mexico. Satellite imagery shows showers and thunderstorms in association with this area of low pressure continue to become better organized as they wrap themselves about a low-level center of circulation. This low pressure area will become a tropical depression later today as further organization should continue since the low center is located in an area of warm water and low wind shear.

For Wednesday morning there’s not too much on the radar with only waist high plus surf for the better West facing beaches.

2014-10-29 Wed 11:21 PM Moonset

The conditions look great with 1-8 MPH breezes out of the NE/NNE until noon, (stronger below the passes and canyons), and onshore winds in the 9-11 MPH zone in the afternoon. The air temp jumps up to 78 degrees.

For Thursday morning we’ll see a slight bump in NW energy from a 300 degree angle. This should put the better West facing beaches into the waist high plus zone.

For Halloween morning the scenario will remain the same with just smallish, background NW swell in the knee to waist high range. Looks like more tricks than treats as far as the surf is concerned…

For Saturday morning we’ll see a nice bump in size out of the NW with head high to overhead sets at the the better West facing breaks. Unfortunately the winds look problematic with stiff onshore/westerly breezes right out of the gate. It won’t be victory at sea but pretty brutal. * You might want to dust that full suit off in case the water turns over and the temp drops down.

Saturday
2014-11-01 Sat 01:30 AM Moonset
2014-11-01 Sat 06:01 AM 4.75 feet High Tide
2014-11-01 Sat 07:13 AM Sunrise

2014-11-01 Sat 05:37 PM 4.69 feet High Tide
2014-11-01 Sat 06:01 PM Sunset

The conditions look piss poor on paper with double digit onshore winds at first light and those get up to nearly 20 MPH later in the day. The air temp tops out at 68 degrees.

Sunday morning the NW swell will continue to produce some shoulder to head high plus surf for the best West facing breaks and there is a chance that the conditions could improve overnight, (but I’m not making any promises).

Sunday
2014-11-02 Sun 12:06 AM 0.48 feet Low Tide
2014-11-02 Sun 01:35 AM Moonset
2014-11-02 Sun 05:41 AM 5.27 feet High Tide
2014-11-02 Sun 06:14 AM Sunrise
2014-11-02 Sun 11:51 AM 1.28 feet Low Tide
2014-11-02 Sun 02:23 PM Moonrise
2014-11-02 Sun 05:00 PM Sunset
2014-11-02 Sun 05:44 PM 4.79 feet High Tide
2014-11-02 Sun 11:52 PM 0.55 feet Low Tide

The conditions look good for the AM with winds out of the N/NNE in the 3-10 MPH zone until 11AM and then those get up to 10-12 MPH out of the West later in the day. The air temp tops out at 71 degrees. * Hard to say if the NE winds will iron out all the lumps and bumps from Saturday… but that’s we have hi def cameras right?
