SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 10-8-13
______________________________________________________________________________

HURRICANE WATCH 10-8-13

Tropical Storm Narda is in the Eastern Pacific. It is located about 1,185 miles away from the southern tip of Baja California. Narda will move off to the west over the open ocean during the next couple of days. This system has begin to weaken and this trend is expected to continue. It may become a tropical depression on Wednesday. Narda will not affect land and will only spin over the open waters of the Eastern Pacific.

For Wednesday morningthings should pick up a bit with chest to possibly shoulder high plus surf at the top West facing breaks and some smaller, 195 degree, SW swell mixing in. There’s an okay tide push through the dawn patrol, so who knows? You might be able to get a couple notches on the belt if the winds stay favorable early.

The conditions look questionable early, but today’s wind models are calling for winds to be out of the SSE at 8-10 MPH until around noon and gusty 10-15+ MPH breezes, out of the West, in the afternoon. The air temp will remain in the mid 60’s and there’s a 40% chance of rain.

Thursday morninglooks a little more solid with chest to shoulder high sets out of NW, and some fresh, SW energy creeping in late in the day. Not the preferred wave bonanza we’ve been waiting for, but at least things are getting more interesting!

The conditions should be okay for the morning, (at least they appear to be on paper).

Friday morning is shaping up to be okay with a combination of chest high, NW energy and a mix of 2, small, but punchy, long interval swells out of the SW, (195-200 degrees). With the mix of energy most spots should see waist to chest high surf and the exposed spots seeing larger and more consistent sets.

The conditions look tolerable with variable winds in the 2-6 MPH zone until noon and 10-12 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp will jump back up to 69 degrees.

Saturday morning should be yet another fun day for waves with the NW and SW energy lingering for one more day. Once again, the top West and SW breaks will see surf in the waist to chest high range. I’ll update the forecast daily so check back often. Lots of variables out there right now!

The conditions look a little iffy with winds out of the West, in the 2-5 MPH zone until noon and 10-12 out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp will get up to 70 degrees.
______________________________________________________________________________

By Sunday morning all swells taper off quickly. The NW energy will dip down into the waist high range and the SW swells will dish up inconsistent waist high sets, (maybe a few larger stragglers).
