SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED on 9-13-18
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

HURRICANE WATCH

Tropical Storm Olivia made landfall over Kahakuloa, Hawaii, on Wednesday local time, and is now moving away from the Hawaiian Islands. Enhanced trade wind showers will continue across the northern and eastern portions of the islands over the next couple of days. Olivia will continue to drift westward, away from the Hawaiian Islands through the end of the week and this weekend.

Elsewhere in the East Pacific, we are watching one area of enhanced shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a broad area of low pressure a few hundred miles southeast of the southern tip of Baja California. Strong wind shear is currently preventing organization of this tropical wave, but development is possible by Friday or Saturday when wind shear slackens.

For Friday morning the new South swell should be in the chest high + range from 190 degrees and 14-16 second intervals, (probably a little bigger in the OC and San O’ areas).

Secondly we’ll see some steeply angled NW wind swell from 310 degrees and 7-8 second intervals.

Lastly we’ll see a more powerful SW swell start to fill in later in the day. This energy will move up the line from a reasonable direction of 190-195 degree angle and 18+ second intervals. It should be in full swing for Saturday morning.

Saturday morning looks like another promising day for waves as a nice combo of Southerly swell peaks with Shoulder to Head High sets rolling in from a 185-195 degree angle. The most exposed spots in the OC and San O’ areas will definitely be the best bet. Breaks in the North end of the Bay and beyond should also get a healthy dose of energy.
