HURRICANE WATCH: Hurricane Ignacio is a Category 1 hurricane located about 285 miles north of Hilo, Hawaii. It is moving to the northwest at 10 mph, and it will slowly weaken over the next couple of days as it encounters cooler waters.

Hurricane Jimena is located over 955 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii. Jimena is still a major hurricane and it will slowly weaken as it tracks to the west or west-northwest over slightly cooler waters and into modest wind shear. No direct impact to land is forecast this week, but increased swells may head toward Hawaii late this week.

Tropical Depression 14 formed on Monday in the eastern Pacific. It is located about 700 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. The system is moving to the northwest and it probably will become a tropical storm over the next 24 hours, and if so, it will be named Kevin.

For Wednesday looks interesting with a combination of NW energy from 305-310 degrees and some 12 second + interval swell from Jimena from 195-200 degrees. If things play out according to projections the South facing breaks should go chest high and the West facing breaks should be good for waist to chest high peaks!

By Saturday should be interesting with a combination of NW energy, SW energy and a chance at some surf from TD-14E, (which looks like it should soon turn into Hurricane Kevin).

Wave heights are up in the air right now if Kevin enters the fray, but it’s pretty safe to assume that the NW facing breaks should go waist to chest high and the South facing breaks will do the same.

This tropical storm energy doesn’t follow a script so we’ll just have to see what happens over the next 24 hours!

By Sunday a more dominant SW swell will enter the picture and should dish up shoulder to head high sets with some larger sets in the San O’ and OC regions.

This energy will move in from a fairly liberal 200-210 degree angle with powerful 18+ second intervals and should get into any beach with a peek at the S/SW.
