HURRICANE WATCH: Tropical Storm Marty continues to drift near the southwest Mexican coastline, west-southwest of Acapulco. Marty will gradually weaken over the next 12-24 hours as interaction with land and shear have impacted the system. Heavy rainfall will inundate southwestern Mexico through Tuesday night, especially across the Mexican state of Guerrero. An additional 2-4 inches will fall across much of the state with up to 8 inches possible in the mountains. The heavy rain will result in life-threatening flash floods and mudslides. The rain will gradually diminish in the region on Wednesday. In addition to the rain, isolated tropical storm wind gusts up to 40-50 mph will be possible along the immediate coast through Tuesday night.

Despite Marty’s close proximity to the coast, it is not expected to make landfall and will begin to shift westward and eventually out to sea. Rough surf and rip currents will lash the Mexican coastline for the next few days.
