I think this is the first time I went on vacation, (away from the Ocean), and the surf didn’t come up in my absence!!! Not one, “you missed it Durand” email, text or phone call, so I know it had to be really shi#$y. Nothing real inspiring on the horizon either, but we should see a little blip of SW energy late in the week. I’m anticipating a mad house scramble for the first crumbs of surf we’ve seen in a loooong time.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 8-25-13
______________________________________________________________________________

HURRICANE WATCH 8-25-13

Ivo has weakened to a Tropical Rainstorm over the cooler Pacific waters. This remnant system will also continue to encounter increasing wind shear. Both of these factors will lead to the dissipation of the system within a few days.

Regardless of the strength of the system, moisture associated with it will bring periods of heavy flooding rain, brief gusty winds and possible mudslides to northern portions of the Baja Peninsula into tonight. It will also expand northward into portions of the southwestern United States early this week, bringing flash flooding and mudslides to some parts of the southwestern United States.

Aside from Ivo, we are also watching another area of disturbed weather across the Eastern Pacific Basin. A disorganized area of thunderstorms currently off the coast of southwestern Mexico and Guatemala near the Gulf of Tehuantepec. This system is moving off to the west-northwest around 10 to 15 mph and some development is possible later in the week as it moves into warmer waters and a weaker wind shear environment.

Thursday morning we’ll see our first ground swell in what seems like months. This is nothing get real excited about but when you’ve starved as long as we have any morsel that Mother Nature throws our way will happily be devoured.

The swell will come in from a 195-200 degree, SW angle with 14-16 second intervals and put the better South facing breaks into the chest high zone on the sets. Not quite the wave bonanza we’ve been hoping for but there should at least be a little something to float your boat.
