SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 4-22-14
______________________________________________________________________________

For Wednesday morning we’ll see a combination of NW wind swell and ground swell from that same steep 300-305 degree angle. This should generate chest to head high surf for the best West facing breaks.

The South swell will be on the fade, (185 degrees with 14-16 seconds), but will dish up chest high sets for the most exposed South facing beaches.

The conditions look a little iffy with swirling breezes out of the N/NE at first light and then those winds turn onshore shortly after. The West winds will get up to 10-16 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 68 degrees.

Thursday morning looks a bit smaller as all swells are on the fade. Both West and South facing breaks will be less consistent, but should still drum up waist high plus sets up and down the coast, (with the possibility of some larger sets at the exposed West facing beaches).

The conditions look a bit better with breezes out of the E/NE, in the 3-6 MPH zone until 10AM and those will get up to 8-10 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp remains in the high 60’s.

Friday morning looks smallish with waist high plus surf for the better West facing beaches.

The conditions look okay early, for spots that can handle a South wind. We’ll see variable breezes out of the SE in the 1-6 MPH zone until 10AM and those will ramp up to a blustery 10-25 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp dips to 64 degrees.
______________________________________________________________________________

Saturday morning we’ll see tons of swell but it looks like the winds could “blow” any chance of clean conditions for most spots.

For swell… we’ll see some super long, 18-20 second interval South swell move in from a fairly steep 185-190 degree angle. There will be some lulls between the sets but when they roll in they’ll pack plenty of punch and go a few feet overhead at the top South facing breaks in the OC and San O’ areas. The points and reefs to the North should see some chest to head high plus sets, and finding a spot that has a wind block or some kelp will likely be your best bet.

We’ll also see some fresh NW ground swell and wind swell in the mix. That should be good for shoulder high to overhead surf for the West facing breaks. No matter how you slice it there will be some waves to be had, it’s just a matter of where and when!

The conditions look sketchy with 6-10 MPH West winds right out of the gate, and those are slated to get up to 15-20 MPH later in the morning and continue through the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 66 degrees.

Sunday morning could be good if the winds clean things up overnight.

That steep NW energy will generate shoulder to head high sets at the most exposed West facing breaks.

That same 185-190 degree angle swell will have 16-18 second intervals and should dish up head high to overhead plus sets for the top spots in the OC and San O’ regions.
