HURRICANE WATCH August 1, 2014 – Tropical Storm Iselle is located over open waters of the eastern Pacific, about 1,160 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds are 60 mph, and the storm is moving west-northwest at 10 mph. Iselle has greatly strengthened overnight and is expected to strengthen further over the next couple of days. Iselle could become a hurricane by Saturday.

A pair of disturbances, one located several hundred miles south of Acapulco, Mexico, and the other about 1,500 miles east-southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii, remain disorganized at this time. However, as these disturbances move steadily westward, they could slowly become better organized later this week.

Sunday morning should be slightly better, but still not reliable, as inconsistent sets out of the SW will be the main draw. The best South facing beaches should go waist high plus.

Monday morning should be a little better with waist high plus surf for the top South facing beaches. The Tropical energy, (Iselle), should come into the fold as well, but it’s too early to tell how big it will be. The good news is that it is moving in a good direction and the swell angle should be good for most of So Cal.
