HURRICANE WATCH: Guillermo is just barely a tropical storm and the storm should weaken to a tropical depression with winds of 35 mph or less. The stronger winds are well off the coast and a concern to boaters. Rough surf, large waves and rip currents will continue to affect the Hawaiian Islands through tomorrow then gradually subside through the upcoming weekend.

Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Hilda is located about 1,695 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Hilda will intensify through the rest of the week as it tracks off to the west-northwest with warm waters. Hilda should become a hurricane tomorrow. Hilda is on a course that will not impact any land mass through early next week. However, the storm will be monitored for possible impacts to Hawaii if it were to move on a more west northwest course next week.

Wow… this is really starting to get old! The crystal ball shows no legitimate surf well into the future. The Southern Hemisphere has been extremely stingy this summer, and it when it coughs up a little swell there seems to be something defective that comes along with it, (shi#$y shape, wrong angle, onshore winds, just enough wind swell to muck up the sea surface). The wind swell has been a joke and the Hurricane season hasn’t lived up to expectations yet either. I’ve already used up my allotted amount of surf trips for 2015 but may have to plead insanity to my wife and break out for a quick 4 day pop somewhere… I am just about to snap!

Friday morning looks okay for the most exposed South facing breaks with steep, 180-185 degree angle swell in the waist high plus range. Not quite promising enough to go chase it down, but if you’re in the OC area you may be able to snag a few scraps!
