SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SURF FORECAST UPDATED 2-16-16

By Wednesday morning we will start to see some fresh swell from Japan begin to hit Southern California. This energy will have powerful 15-17 second intervals, from a 290-295 degree angle), and should put the better West facing breaks into the shoulder to head high range for the morning and incrementally increase through the day.

The conditions should be okay with 6-14 MPH breezes out of the E/SE until late afternoon and 3-10 PPH out of the West in the late afternoon. There is a 40% chance of rain and the air temp tops out at 71 degrees.

For Thursday morning that Japan swell will peak in the AM and put the top West facing breaks into the shoulder to head high plus zone on the better sets.

High tide really starts to work its way into the mix so consider yourself advised.

The conditions should be okay with variable 2-7 MPH breezes until noon and 4-10 MPH out of the West in the afternoon. There is a 20% chance of rain and the air temp plummets to 65 degrees.

For Friday we’ll see some 12-14 second, medium interval energy move in from a 290-300 degree angle and put the best West facing breaks into the Head High to OH range.

From the looks of things this won’t be the cleanest swell we’ve seen but it should have a little pep in its step.

The conditions look a little iffy with 2-10 MPH breezes out of the West most of the day and blow stronger just before dark. There’s a 10% chance of rain and the air temp tops out at 65 degrees.

For Saturday morning the surf will dip in size but the better West facing breaks should see shoulder to head high sets.

The conditions should be tolerable early with variable 1-6 MPH breezes until 11AM, (stronger out of the straight North below the passes and canyons), and 9-13 breezes out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp jumps up to the 73 degree mark.

The current water temps Newport 60 degrees, Huntington 60 degrees, the South Bay showed as 62 degrees, Santa Monica 62 degrees and Malibu 59 degrees.
