HURRICANE WATCH: Ela continues to weaken and has been declared a post tropical storm as it continues to encounter hostile conditions east of Hawaii. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph and the system is about 405 miles east-northeast of Hilo, Hawaii.

Elsewhere, an area of showers and thunderstorms a few hundred miles south to southwest of Guatemala should develop into an area of low pressure over the next day or two. Long-range computer models continue to show this system becoming a tropical storm early next week a few hundred miles off the south coast of Mexico then intensifying into a hurricane by the middle of next week.

Another area of disturbed weather 1,300 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California is attempting to acquire a coherent circulation. This, too, could become an organized tropical system within the next few days.

Stay tuned… things happen fast in the tropics!

For Saturday morning that SW energy will dip slightly but have enough mustard to send chest high plus sets, (to most breaks that get a look at the South), and some larger waves showing up at the standout South facing breaks.

The good news is that yet another round of SW swell will start to fill in later in the day. The angle on this one will be 200 degrees so not quite as liberal as its predecessors but it should still get into any beach with a look at the South.
