HURRICANE WATCH July 1st Tropical Storm Douglas continues to cling to life as it move west, harmlessly off into the Pacific Tropical Storm Douglas has moved over cool waters and no further intensification is expected. TS Douglas is about 465 miles west southwest of Cabo San Lucas and headed out, into the Pacific.
Tropical Storm Elida is wandering a bit, very slowly along the Pacific coast of Mainland Mexico about 110 miles south of Manzanillo. Elida weakened overnight a little, but that is to be expected when as storm changes direction. Elida is forecast to remain a tropical storm through the 5 day forecast as it moves west into the Pacific. Elida is not forecast to have any significant effect on Baja weather at this time.
Wednesday morning looks pretty feeble, with just leftover crumbs in the knee to waist high zone. The S/SW energy has been pretty active, so there may be a few fun sets rolling through, but you’ll have to be patient, (and lucky). The water temp is so comfortable right now that I may have to force myself out there to keep my 8 day in a row surf streak alive.

For Thursday morning we’ll see small, leftover background swell in the knee to waist high range for the dawn patrol.
The good news is that some fresh, long interval, (16-18 second), ground swell will come up the line later in the day, and should be in full force for some 4th of July fireworks! The only caveat is that it will be coming from a steep, 180 degree angle and the bulk of the swell will only get into the most exposed South facing beaches like the OC and San O’ areas.

Saturday morning looks pretty good if you can get to a South facing break. There should be some nice chest to head high plus sets at the most exposed South facing beaches. Any place with a structured bottom should do well. The waves will be powerful, with long intervals and lots of water moving around, (and the beach breaks may be a little walled).

The conditions look tolerable with light winds out of the West in the 1-3 MPH zone until 10AM and then those pick up to 10-12 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 81 degrees.
Sunday morning should be another pretty good day for surf, with powerful, long interval South swell pushing into the exposed spots. Long interval sets in the shoulder high to overhead zone will be the order of the day. Nothing real BIG, but lots of punch with this swell. Tons of riptides out there folks, so if your not a seasoned veteran stay on your toes out there!!!
