HURRICANE WATCH October 6th, 2014 – Simon continues to weaken today as it treks through cooler ocean waters and is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by Tuesday morning.
Tropical development is not expected through the next 48 hours.
For Tuesday morning we’ll see sporadic pulses out of the SW from a 200 degree angle and with 14 second intervals. This should be good for waist to chest high sets for SW facing spots that are receptive to that angle.
Also in the mix will be the super steep Hurricane Simon swell in the shoulder to head high plus zone. This energy will remain come up the line from 160-165 degrees. This will only get into the most exposed South facing breaks in the OC and San O’ areas. Other spots my see some refractive energy but it won’t amount to much.
* A beasty 6.14 high tide around 9AM will definitely put a strangle hold on most spots but will go out quickly into the afternoon.

2014-10-07 Tue 09:25 PM 5.61 feet High Tide
The conditions should be fair + with E/NE winds in the 1-4 MPH zone until 11AM and then those will remain mild out of the West in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 80 degrees.
For Wednesday morning we’ll see smaller, inconsistent surf, out of SW in the waist high plus zone and the super exposed South facing breaks will get the waist high plus crumbs from Hurricane Simon.
The monster high tide at 9:30 will undoubtedly kill the smaller sized surf so crack it early and maybe get a few or wait until late, late morning or early afternoon.

The conditions should be fair with light and variable breezes, out of the N/NNE, in the 1-3 MPH zone until noon and 9-11 MPH West winds in the afternoon. The air temp dips slightly to 77 degrees.
By Thursday morning we’ll see more inconsistent sets out of the SW. Waves will be in the waist high plus zone but be sure to factor the high tide into the equation. Looks pretty iffy through the prime morning hours.
