HURRICANE WATCH October 3rd, 2014 – Tropical Storm Simon is located a couple hundred miles south of the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula today. It continues to move westward away from Mexico. Sustained winds have increased some today, and the storm is expected continue to strengthen over the next 24-36 hours, Simon will likely become a hurricane late tonight or Saturday.

Simon should begin to weaken on Sunday, but that is also when the storm may begin curving back to the north and toward Baja California. We expect Simon to eventually move into mainland Mexico sometime next week as it rapidly weakens.

For Saturday morning the SW energy should continue to dish up shoulder to head high sets, (larger at the most exposed South facing beaches), and the wind and weather look awesome! The South/South West facing breaks will get the mother lode of the swell and the points and reefs will do a much better job of holding shape than the beach breaks.

For Sunday morning we’ll see another day of fun day of SW energy in the chest to shoulder high plus range.

We’ll also see yet another burst of SW energy start to move in through the day. This one will also have long intervals and a user friendly angle of 200-205 degrees.

The most exposed South facing beaches should get a whiff of Hurricane Simon swell too. This will be coming up the line at a severe, 165+ degree angle and only get into select beaches.

Looks like a nice run of energy and all the variables, on paper, look excellent!
