HURRICANE WATCH September 17th, 2014 – Odile is no longer an organized tropical system, but tropical Storm Polo is about 160 miles southwest of Zihuatenejo, Mexico and it should strengthen into a hurricane off the southwest Mexican coast later tonight or early Thursday morning. Warm water and decreasing wind shear will support the strengthening.

Tropical storm-force winds extend outward from the storm up to 80 miles. If the storm tracks closer to the coast these winds could start to impact parts of southwest Mexico on Thursday and could also impact southwest Baja California this weekend.

Long range computer forecasts suggest another tropical system should form due west of central America in a few days.

By Thursday morning that LONG interval SW energy will shorten to 16 seconds, and the sets will come in with less frequency, but there should still be plenty of shoulder to head high waves rolling through.

We should also see some fresh, 12-14 second, medium interval swell, moving in from the NW. This should be good for some waist high plus sets from a fairly steep, 310 degree angle.

By Friday morning there will still be a little bit of SW energy left. The intervals will shorten once again and the gaps between sets will increase. That NW energy should be good for one more day of waist high plus surf from that same 305-310 degree angle.

By Saturday morning we’ll head back into blah zone with just small, leftover, waist high sets for the top spots. A pretty high tide at 8:30AM will definitely slow things down so you might want to crack it early if you want to scrape up a couple of early bird worms!
