HURRICANE WATCH September 18th, 2014 – Hurricane Polo is a Category 1 Hurricane located at 17.4 N, -105.8 W with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, gusting to 90 mph. Polo is tracking northwest, parallel to the southwestern Mexican Coast, over warm ocean waters.

Moisture from what was once Odile will track across parts of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States over the next couple of days. Heavy rain will lead to life-threatening flooding from Sonora Mexico through the panhandle of Texas.

Long-range computer forecasts suggest another tropical system should form due west of central America in a few days; otherwise, the rest of the Pacific Basin remains relatively quiet.

By Friday morning there will still be a little bit of SW energy left. The intervals will shorten once again and the gaps between sets will increase. That NW energy should be good for one more day of waist high plus surf from that same 305-310 degree angle.

By Saturday morning we’ll head back into blah zone with just small, leftover, waist high sets for the top spots. A pretty high tide at 8:30AM will definitely slow things down so you might want to crack it early if you want to scrape up a couple of early bird worms!

Sunday morning looks like a good time to go to church and pray for surf… unfortunately, knee to waist high is all that will be on offer. *Hurricane Polo hasn’t picked a definitive direction just yet so we’ll have to wait and see if it spins out to the NW, (and shoots us some swell), or hugs to Coast and continues clobber Mexico!
