HURRICANE WATCH September 4th, 2014 – In the east Pacific hurricane Norbert is moving northwest and will pass just southwest and west of the southern Baja peninsula tomorrow and tomorrow night. The hurricane has about 30-36 hours before it starts to move over colder water. Until then if the shear relaxes over the system it could intensify further through today and most of tomorrow. Then once it does reach that cooler water it will start to weaken.
Track forecasts from the more reliable computer forecasts indicated Norbert will track very close to the southern Baja peninsula tomorrow, tomorrow night and perhaps early Saturday.
Friday morning should be pretty good as the SW swell really starts to show. The top South facing breaks should see chest to head high sets with the possibility of some larger waves in the OC and San O’ areas. This energy will continue to build and peak on Saturday morning.

The conditions look passable with West winds in the 2-5 MPH zone until 10AM and then those pick up to 10-13 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at 77 degrees.
Saturday morning should be the money day as that Tahitian swell hits it’s stride and delivers some powerful, 16-18 second interval sets, from a fairly liberal 200-210 degree angle. The top spots should have some well overhead thumpers and that will continue all day long.
The S/SW facing breaks with some bottom structure will do the best. The beach breaks will be cracking too, but the shape will likely be compromised.

The conditions look tolerable with variable winds in the 2-5 MPH zone until 10AM and then those pick up to 9-11 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at a smoking hot 84 degrees.
Sunday morning looks pretty good with a combination of the fading Tahiti swell and some fresh, but super steeply angled swell, (160-170 degrees), from Norbert.
The extreme South facing breaks should see chest to head high sets with the possibility of larger waves depending on how Norberts antics actually unfold.
The SW 200-210 degree Tahitian swell will be on the fade but should deliver surf to any spot that has a look at the South West.

The conditions look okay early with variable winds in the 1-6 MPH zone until 10AM and then those pick up to 10-12 MPH in the afternoon. The air temp tops out at scorching 85 degrees.
By Monday morning, (according to the weather models), Norbert should be in full effect for the better South facing breaks. While paling in comparison to Marie’s raw power, this energy should be good for head high to well overhead sets at the better South facing beaches.
Once again, the tide and weather look great for the AM time slot.

The conditions look fair + with light winds in the 1-6 MPH zone until all day long. The air temp tops out at a blistering 80 degrees on the sand.
By Tuesday morning Norbert will be on the fade and with a name like Norbert that’s exactly what I’d expect. That Tropical energy will be on the way out but still should be good for shoulder to head high sets at the best South facing breaks.
Looks like a great tide push through the AM and it’ll be another warm day too. Should be some fun surf on tap!
